It's been months since the first outbreak. Most were dead and the undead reigned the earth. A few scattered living humans struggled to survive.
The couple sought the sanctuary of an abandoned hospital after being attacked while trying to make it to New Detroit, ironically, the only safe place left in the US.

His girl friend of only a few days--he found her amidst the chucked up remains of her murdered siblings on Swentle Lane--once a posh area for the rich. She was dazed and confused and he nursed her back to health and promised to protect her--now this. She was bitten.

Bitten, a certain death sentence for her. He know the process. She would change soon if he did not find a cure. He had heard rumors. The right combo of medicines could reverse the effects. But, they were just rumors. He had no clue. In his heart, he knew she was gone. But, he put on a brave face for her.

She was struggling. The bite on her neck was bleeding and she was spitting up *****, signs of the change working it's way through her delicate body.

She was in shock, blabbering, jerking, spasming. He did his best to comfort her. He had some EMT training. He wired her up to the heart monitor. It was the only thing he could think of. She suddenly sat up. Then--fell back dead.

He rushed to revive her before she turned. The hospital was still on solar generators and he found paddles. He shocked her several time and finally, she came back. And, she was coherent.

She seemed almost fine, until he told her about the bite. She realized what they meant and started to panic. He dug around looking for something, anything to use on her to try to save her. She started spasming, her tits shaking, her legs trembling.

Finally, she knew she was a goner. She could feel it happening to her. He begged him to kill her. Then, she was dead.

Again, he used the paddles to try to revive her. This time, she would not come back. She was dead.

He turned off the machine. Another girlfriend he lost in just a short time. He wished they would learn to run faster. But suddenly, she was back. She was turned and trying to bit him. He freaked out, spin around and planted a bullet in her forehead. It was the only way. She flew back, barely undead, an evil sick sound escaped her throat and then, she was gone.

He admired her for a moment, then quickly left before the other zombies, who, no doubt heard the shot, would be hear to feast on her flesh.
